Purpose. Vision. Mission.

The mission of the Waterbury Housing Authority (WHA) is to provide safe, quality affordable housing for very low, low, and moderate-income persons. It is the goal of the WHA to deliver these services with integrity and mutual accountability, to create healthy living environments, and to create opportunities for independence, self-sufficiency, and improved quality of life.

The WHA currently assists over 3,035 families who reside in Public Housing Units owned and operated by the WHA, and in privately owned units that are assisted by Housing Choice Voucher Programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the WHA help people in need of housing assistance?

WHA can help by paying a portion of your rent directly to your landlord through the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, This program is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Another way WHA assists people is by making Housing Authority-owned apartments available to low-income households at an affordable rent.

How can I get a Section 8 Voucher or move in to a Housing Authority-owned apartment?

All households in need of rental assistance at a privately owned unit must first place their name on the Housing Authority Section 8 Voucher Waiting List. When your name reaches the top of the List, you will be asked to complete an application so that your eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program can be determined.
